The US authorities were aware of the high level of terrorist threat at the Kabul International Airport a day before the explosions. This is reported by Politico with reference to the data of secret telephone conversations between the commanders of the American armed forces.
According to the publication, 24 hours before the terrorist attacks near the Kabul airport, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, instructed the military personnel to prepare for "an event with a mass of victims". Thus, the US Secretary of Defense knew in advance about the upcoming attacks and informed his subordinates about the need to take a number of protective measures.
These measures to prevent terrorist attacks included closing the gates at the entrances to the airport, notifying the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) of a potential threat, restricting pedestrian and automobile traffic in the vicinity, and notifying all American citizens in Kabul about the danger of visiting certain places. An anonymous representative of the US Defense Ministry told Politico that the US military was aware of the threat and tried to remain as vigilant as possible.
On August 26, several explosions occurred near the international airport of the capital of Afghanistan. The first attack at the Baron hotel was carried out by a suicide bomber. As a result of the terrorist attacks, at least 200 people were killed, including 13 US citizens.
